I've got a terrible head cold, which is making me grumpy, but whoa, I forgot to say -- I found twenty bucks on the sidewalk today. Sweet mamajama! Almost better than when Trevor and I moved back from Japan and were jobless and broke and only eating soup and found an intact twelve pack of beer in the Albertson's parking lot at 1 am. Oh, how the memory still makes me giddy.

And since I'm sick, today I ate a ton of vegetabley goodness and drank a gallon of water. That means that twenty can pay for pizza and pints at The 'Splitter tonight. Beer and pizza pie, bad (for head cold), but good for soul.

Serendipity!!!! One time my brother and I were hiking in Canada en route to the north shore of Lake Superior. We usually always pack a beer to celebrate reaching our destination, but due to the strenousness of this hike and our prolonged hike, decided against it. We were not going to carry an ounce of extra weight. After 3 heinous days and nights of slogging though the woods, we reached the shore where we found washed up on the icy shore a full beer. No beer ever tasted better!

Hey wreckless! Love it that the gods smiled on you and your brother in your time of need, as they did on us.

Funny, I had friends in college who had a special spot in our favorite river where they would stash beer. A high country river of snowmelt + carefully hidden beer on a hot July hike = heaven!

I lost a beer, I mean 20 dollars, when I was a kid out in the woods when I was on a Boy Scout trip once (out near cherry lake I think). I wonder if it was the same dollar you found?
Could it have stayed in circulation? It was wrapped in aluminum foil in a little ball? Ring any bells?

(a short story about that special bill is in order.. aka "The Chinese Ink Stick".. the wonderful biography of an ink stick I read as a kid.)

Craig, I spent your $20, but I'll buy you a beer next time I see you. And I'll add something to its biography, should you write it...
