Better late than never...

Joy Kills Sorrow, Freight and Salvage, Berkeley, 8.18.2010

What super talented and really nice folks! And though they were all fabulous musicians, damn it if that young kid didn't blow everyone away on the mandolin.

Here they are in Portland, performing 'New Shoes'

They're almost done touring, but if you get a chance in the future to see Joy Kills Sorrow, I highly recommend it. In the meantime, buy their terrific record, Darkness Sure Becomes This City.

Vintage Tokyo subway "manner" posters, via Pink Tentacle

Whether extolling the virtues of giving up your seat for the elderly or infirm or simply reminding you to remember your umbrella, these posters are beautifully detailed and are typical of the Japanese tendency to do everything -- even a humble subway poster -- in a top notch fashion.

I particularly love that there are so many posters to remind drunks not to pass out on the train. Omoshiroi!

Yee! Radishes are finally coming up...

...and my kale is looking healthy...
well as my container chard, haphazard but growing fast:

Now to just get a bit of time to learn to brew beer...

There are so many wild blackberry bushes near my new apartment, I have a full size stove and oven, and it is summer in the Bay Area. So, I've been making PIE!

You know this is homemade, because there was a thorn in the first piece. ;P

Yeeee! I wonder how many people are looking at getting hitched in California today?

Time to celebrate, and gear up for a Supreme Court VICTORY!
